An exciting week :]

Hey Yall!
This week has been very exciting and many things have taken place!
First off, my first 410 Bridge team from South Carolina arrived on Thursday and stayed in a resort all week. Also a girl named Mary Davenport arrived on Thursday and she will be working with Kyle and I.

Friday our team went out to the old camp for the entire day. In the morning we had some arts and crafts time with the kids and in the afternoon we gathered some older deaf adults into the meeting house to share a Bible lesson.

Saturday our team went out to Leveque for the day. In the morning we all walked up to the top of the hill and had a prayer walk over the land where the church would be built. In the afternoon many of the deaf in the community played soccer against each other with their new sports gear.
Sunday our team went to the church service in Leveque in the small pavilion area. After church we all went back to Mackenson’s home and shared our favorite Bible verses and why they are our favorite. In the afternoon the team gathered 6-8 older deaf women to start teaching them how to make jewelry from paper. One of the women from the 410 Bridge team has her own business making this jewelry so she discussed with Kyle before hand to see if this could be a small business opportunity for the deaf women in the community. The women really enjoyed learning together and making these necklaces and bracelets.

Monday our team went out to Leveque for the day. In the morning we had half of the team go with Pastor William to a deaf families home to help them start on their garden while the our half of the team stayed in Mackenson’s home and were taught a Sign Language class. In the afternoon we had the deaf women working on their jewelry again and some of the team playing jump robe or frisbee with some of the kids in the community.

Tuesday our team went out to Leveque for the day to spend the last full day out there with the deaf community. When we arrived to Mackenson’s home we looked up to the hill to see Mackenson and Pastor William jumping up and down. What could this mean?? THE CHURCH BROKE GROUND TODAY!!!

Many deaf joined us on the top of the hill to celebrate this great day!! We all prayed together for success for this building process and success for hearing and deaf people within the community to come to this church and worship together. It was very exciting!

Prayer Requests:
1. Mackenson has the opportunity to go to Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., for one month to visit. This is his second time going to America but this time he will be staying longer. I know how excited he is to go but he feels like he is leaving a lot of responsibility here in Haiti behind to the other deaf leaders. I would just ask for prayer for his nerves of traveling and prayer to ask the Lord for a peace so that Mackenson knows that everything back home in Leveque will be taken care of.
2. Continue to pray for protection and safety as we travel the streets of Haiti.
Praise Report:
WE HAVE RAIN!!
Love You All :]

Update...

Greetings yall!
This week has been a little bit different for me. I did not have a team this week so I was paired up with two other interns and their hometown churches. I was unable to go to Leveque most of this week and it made me sad and I started to realize how much I missed seeing my deaf community every day. The best part about this week was the fact that I was able to see more parts of the wonderful country of Haiti. The team that I joined this week really helped me understand the meaning of patience. The entire week I was a little bit bitter about not going to Leveque but the different villages that I was able to visit truly took my breath away. God has made this country so special and seeing the awesome craftsmanship of the Lord this week has put me on the ground in awe. Haiti might be a “poor looking” country to the outside world but God made this mountainous country amazingly beautiful.
This morning, as we were having our intern meeting, I was finally told that I would be able to go to Leveque. (Praise the Lord! I could not have been happier.) I was able to spend the entire day with many of my deaf leaders, which made my week complete. It was so rewarding when I walked up to Mackensons’ home and all of the deaf leaders gave me big hugs and asked me where I had been all week; I truly felt loved!
Prayer Requests:
1. My ankles are down to normal size :] But whenever I walk around for a long time they tend to swell again.
2. Please continue to pray for my health, I am fine but my stomach is acting up to the Haitian food sometimes.

Frazer Youth Team!

This week has been a little bit crazy, but it still has turned out to be great. This week’s group is the Frazer Youth group team :] Our team members are: Mr. Bryan (group leader), Mrs. Kelley, Mrs. Brenda, Mr. Scott, Shea, Emily, Jade, Alex, Khadidah, Andrew, Elizabeth (Bizzy), Francie, Keri Ward, Macy & Morgan.
This group is full of joy and excitement to be here! For many of these young teenagers this is there first time to Haiti.

After a crazy day of cancelled flights and sleeping in a hotel for a few short hours, this team finally arrived on Sunday afternoon. I was really excited to have this younger group to chat with and help my energy multiply for the week.
Our team was able to go to Leveque and start building relationships with the deaf leaders and deaf families in the community. The group had a short Sign Language lesson each morning from our very own Mackenson (deaf leader).  We also were able to paint a deaf families' home on the inside.

As I have reported earlier in my blog, each Tuesday at Leveque there is a soccer game that is setup to help start the community coming together so they can interact with everyone. This time Kyle brought loud speakers and played some soccer/Haiti music to get more kids and families out to the soccer field. It was great to see all the kids dancing and the older men playing soccer together!

Today (Thursday) our team went to Leveque and preformed their “Creation” skit for some of the deaf leaders. The entire skit was in sign so the deaf leaders really enjoyed it!
I hate it but this team leaves me tomorrow (Friday) afternoon L
I have truly enjoyed this team and I’m excited to see who returns in the future!

Prayer Requests:
1. Continue to pray for healing for my swollen ankles. They have gone down a little bit but are still not at normal size.
2. Please pray for strength and health because we have had many people get over heated and dehydrated this week.
Thank you all!! LOVE YALL

First Frazer Team!!

Hello!
I have some great updates for you all this week. My first Frazer team arrived on Saturday afternoon to stay at Mission of Hope for the week. My team includes: Kyle’s family: His father-Keith, His mother-Sally, His Aunt- Sue, His sister- Kristen, Team Leaders: Jan & Frank Stevens and their son Gabriel, Mr. Richard Stallworth-our Deaf Frazer family member, Mrs. Stephanie-Jan’s friend from high school and Ms. Jenny. This week will be a great week for me to interpret as much as I can. Especially since we have Mr. Richard on our team and I am happy that I can be able to be here for him :] We have a full week planned for this team and I will try and keep you all updated as best as I can!

***I just wanted to make this blog full of pictures :]

On Monday, our group was able to go to an older deaf mans house named William and he was showing off his garden.

-William grows watermelons in his garden and feeds the deaf community.

On Wednesday, our team went to visit the old deaf camp where the deaf community was living after the earth quake and before moving to Leveque. We met up with one of the deaf leaders who is still living there and has not moved yet, Sandy, who walked us around to see everyone. After taking a tour of the camp we were able to sit down with some of the kids and sing songs.
Prayer Requests:
1. Pray for safe travel as this team travels back home on Saturday afternoon.
2. Pray for safe travel for the Frazer Crave youth team that will be arriving in Haiti on Saturday afternoon.
3. Continue to pray for my strength and health as I try and lead these teams.
LOVE YOU ALL!!

My Day Off :]

Hello!!!
I am writing to you from Wahoo Bay Beach on my day off. The water is beautiful and the wind is a great relief from the heat. I just wanted to let you all know some fun things that have been happening this past week.
-Monday through Wednesday was Intern Training for all the summer interns. We learned alot about Mission Of Hope and about how we all could be affective interns during the summer. After we all took a small test on what we had learned, we were told to meet at 5pm for a surprise. *We were taken out to eat for all passing our tests :)

-One afternoon, I was able to go to Leveque and watch the Deaf community play soccer against the Americans and some translators. Here are some pictures:

The Deaf community won 8-1....there was no competition :]
After the soccer game, Kyle rounded everyone in a circle to sign "How Great Is Our God", led by Mackenson and then William S. (soon to be our Deaf pastor) led us all in a beautiful signed prayer.

My last exciting news is that my first group that I will be working with in the Deaf community will be arriving tomorrow :]
Prayer Requests=
1. I currently have swollen ankles from walking everywhere. Everything on the MOH campus is like a mountain so I walked all the time. (This shows me that I need to start doing some form of exercise when I return to the US).
2. The heat is alright but I'm tired of sweating already :(
3. Just continue to pray for safety for teams and staff because the roads and traffic are crazy and I can't tell you how many close calls with cars we have all the time. So the last thing we need to happen is an accident.
Please let me know if there is anything specific that you all would like me to report about ;)
LOVE YALL!!
